He was married about 1902 to Martha "Nell" Harrell (1887-1972), the daughter of Benjamin Franklin "Ben" Harrell (1861–1920) and Johannah (Butts) Harrell (1861–1918).
A retired farmer living on Rural Route 1 out of Nashville, he was 79 years old and married when he shot and killed himself at home on May 7, 1957. Burial was two days later in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.
