Tina Ensz Friesen, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, daughter of Maria Bergen Ensz, was born on December 11, 1893, at Inman, Kansas, and passed away in Mercy Hospital, Moundridge, Kansas, September 8, 1978. She reached the age of 84 years, 8 months, and 27 days.
She suffered a stroke on September 3, from which she did not recover, remaining in a coma until death relieved her.
Mother grew up in the Inman community and attended the Schaltter school near her home.
She grew to womanhood in her parent's home, and at the age of twenty-one years, realized her lost condition and need of a Saviour. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on December, 1914, by Min. A. G. Ensz, upon the confession of her faith and forgiveness of sin. She remained a faithful member to the end. She rendered a service of love, in caring for her aged mother for about twenty years.
On June 8, 1941, Mother was joined in marriage to our father, Isaac Friesen, being a devoted wife to Father and a loving mother and grandmother to us, the children and grandchildren. She was a faithful help to Father in the work of the deaconry.
We as children greatly appreciate all that she did for our father, especially in his last failing years, ever showing love and affection to grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Father passed away on June 21, 1969, after a marriage together of twenty-nine years.
Mother was in general good health; however, it seemed best that she enter Pleasant View Home in Inman, on March 15, 1975, where she remained a contented resident until June 14 of this year, when she was hospitalized because of a broken hip. She has been hospitalized constantly in Bethel Hospital, Newton, and Mercy Hospital, Moundridge, until the time of her passing on September 8.
Mother was of a quiet and cheerful nature, concerned to live a faithful consistent Christian witness, appreciative and grateful through her extended illness. She has left us with a clear testimony of her faith and peace, and we commit her to our Saviour's loving arms, believing she is now at rest.
She leaves to mourn her passing: one son, Pete W. Friesen; three daughters: Justina, Mrs. Ben Nikkel; Mary, Mrs. Jake Wiebe; Susie, Mrs. Jake Ensz; also eighteen grandchildren, and forty-eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers: George D., Henry D., and Herman Ensz, all of Inman; one brother-in-law, Pete M. Toews; one sister-in-law, Mrs. John D. Ensz; also numerous nephews and nieces. Preceding her are her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services were held September 11, 1978, in the Zion Church, Inman, Kansas, with Min. Abe Toews and Min. Charles Johnson in charge. Min. Curt Ensz spoke at the graveside service. Burial was in the Zion Cemetery.
