West Columbia – Funeral Services for Elizabeth K. Bailey, 79, of West Columbia will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 11 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elizabeth, also called Lib by her friends and family, was born February 7, 1935 in Lincolnton N.C. She was the daughter of the late Reverend Albert T. and Margaret G. Kennedy. Lib grew up in Greenwood and eventually married and moved to West Columbia where they raised their family.

Lib, better known as “Nanny” to her grandkids, was a great wife, mother, sister, neighbor, and homemaker. Lib and Larry had a special relationship and were married sixty years. She was very much at home in her kitchen and was well known for some great family gathering meals. If Lib was not spending time with her sister and best friend Shirley, she was probably watching her grandsons play baseball. Mom spent her life making sure everyone had what they needed and were where they were supposed to be. She had a big heart and compassion for others in need. Lib loved Jesus and made sure her house was a place that worshipped the Lord. Children and grandchildren alike owe their Christian roots to mom. One thing we all agree, she will be missed all the days of our lives.

Lib passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014. She is survived by her husband, Larry F. Bailey of West Columbia; daughter, Debbie Stugart (Steve) of West Columbia; son, David F Bailey (Deb) of Cleveland TN; sister, Shirley K. Husted (Robert) of West Columbia; grandchildren, Amanda Henderson, Matthew Stugart, Melinda Arce, and Michael Stugart; along with many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Oak leaf Assisted Living in Lexington, NHC West Columbia, and Caris Hospice for their support and compassion during the last six months of her life.

The Bailey family recommends that donations be made in lieu of flowers to Trinity Baptist Church Mission Fund, 2003 Charleston Highway, Cayce S.C. 29033 or the Salvation Army 2025 Main St, Columbia, SC 29201.
