Officially Listed As Killed In ActionMr and Mrs E.H. Duncan Are Informed of Their Son's DeathMr and Mrs E.H. Duncan of Ramsay, received a letter last week from the R.C.A.F., Casualty Officer for Chief of Air Staff, Ottawa, stating that the body of their son, Warrant Officer 2 Robert MacIntosh Duncan had been positively identified. The message which was forwarded by the International Red Cross Society quoted German information that five members of the crew lost their lives. Two only R.M. Duncan and Sgt G.M. Jandron were positively identified. The other members of the crew are still classified as missing. Mr and Mrs Duncan were first informed that their son was missing on Jan 29 and their many friends sincerely regret that the long period of anxious waiting ends so sadly. "Bert" as he was usually known was 24 years of age and went overseas late in 1942. He enlisted in November, 1941, and trained at Manning Pool, Brandon and at Calgary and Regina. He received his wings at Dauphin. Besides his father and mother, he leaves six brothers, five of whom are in the armed services and three sisters.

Ramsay And Town Boys Fail To Return From Operational Flight
Cablegrams from Overseas military authorities were received on Monday morning by Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Lee of Almonte and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Duncan of Ramsay, stating that their sons both in the R.C.A.F., were missing from air operations on Jan. 29th it will be recalled that a heavy raid over Germany took place on the above mentioned date. The boys are Warrant Officer Carl Lee of Almonte, a navigator in the R.CA.F. and Sgt.Pilot Robert McIntosh (Bert) Duncan, of Ramsay. .....
Excels In Sport
....Warrant Officer Carl Lee was a graduate of Almonte High School where he excelled in basketball at a time when the local team was winning championships of Lanark and Renfrew Counties. He was a navigator and following his enlistment studied at various camps in Canada before being posted Overseas. For the last six months he had been making flights over the continent and at the time he became a casualty was about due for his commission. Only this week his parents got a letter from him which was posted on Jan. 6th. In it he said he had been before the group captain and he felt he was due for the "flat hat" (commission) as soon as the air marshal I passed upon him. Carl's 22nd birthday is the 10th of this month. Since going Overseas Carl and Bert Duncan saw each other occasionally when on leave although they were not in the same squadrons.
