Johanna Alvina “Ava” (Von Bokel) Elkins was born in Breeze, Illinois on December 9, 1912 to John and Maria “Mary” L. (Klumke) Von Bokel. Johanna was the youngest of 10 children. She would live in Breeze until her marriage at the age of 30 to Leonard McClure Elkins on April 7, 1942 at Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She would live in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Phoenix, Arizona until moving to Burbank, California where she would reside for 45 years until her death. While living in Burbank she would become a professional upholsterer, working in that profession for about 22 years. On February 8, 1982 her husband Leonard was granted a divorce from Johanna in Clark County, Nevada. Leonard would later die on July 10, 2003 in El Monte, California. Johanna would die at the age of 94 at her home in Burbank, California. Johanna was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, California.
