Mary and her two sisters would follow her brother and immigrate to the United States at the age of 18 in 1890. In 1893 she would marry John Von Bokel. This date is found in the Illinois Marriages, 1815-1935. Through their union ten children were born, all were living at the time of Mary’s death with the exception of her youngest son Gerhard Joseph (George) who passed in October 1923.
Mary Von Bokel lived on a farm about 2 miles north of Breeze on Saint Rosa Rd. with her husband John, a well-known farmer of the area. The 1930 census indicates that she was not a naturalized citizen of the United States.
Mary passed away on September 19, 1936 at the Breeze Illinois hospital. Her funeral mass was held at the St. Dominic’s Church in Breese and her remains were buried at the St. Dominic’s Church west of Breeze.
