She was a faithful follower of Christ, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Barbara was born in Kansas City, Kansas on February 12, 1934 and was a graduate of Lynn View High School in Kingsport (Class of 1952).
Barbara was an active and longtime member of First Baptist Church, Erwin, Tennessee where she served as a Sunday School teacher, member and past President of the Woman's Missionary Union, and helped with many church projects including the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox ministry. She was involved in various ways in the community including serving as past President of the Erwin Jaycettes and Regional Director of the Tennessee Jaycettes. Barbara was employed by Erwin National Bank for seventeen years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Inez Harrison of Kingsport; brother, Elmer Lee Harrison.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Virgil Lee Moore; three children, Michael Moore and wife Yvonne from Charlotte, North Carolina, Jonathan Moore and wife Diana from Johnson City, Tennessee, and Chris Moore and wife Cindy from Knoxville, Tennessee; nine grandchildren, Kelly Moore Whitener and husband Jason Whitener, Katie Moore Carruth and husband Paul Carruth, James Michael Moore, Joseph Moore, Kristin Moore, Asher Moore, Joshua Moore, Neeley Moore, Seth Moore; two great grandchildren, Hudson Carruth, Watts Carruth; two sisters, Bonnie Lane and husband C.J. Lane; Sharon Hurd and husband Carroll Hurd; a very special cousin, Helen Edwards of Ulman, Missouri.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2015, at First Baptist Church, 200 Love Street, Erwin, TN.
A celebration of her life will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the church with Bryan Moore, Senior Pastor of Fordtown Baptist (and Barbara's nephew) officiating. Music will be led Sherrill Gibson.
A graveside ceremony will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kingsport, Tennessee. Pallbearers are Joshua Moore, Joseph Moore, James Michael Moore, Jason Whitener, Paul Carruth, Ira Lemmon, Larry Norris, and Rob Stromberg. Honorary pallbearers include Gene Ramsey, Glen Fisher and Paul Farnor.
