Although his gravestone says Condit, his family surname was spelled Condict (with the 2nd "c"), as was his father Daniel Condict (misspelled as Condit on a DAR plaque);
Note: the true spelling of the surname is well documented in the NJ Archives as CONDICT, not Condit, Cundit, Cundict--misspelled by others, likely a result of being indexed as Condit in the Condit genealogy books (by Eben and Jotham Condit for their Condit Family Association)that have mislead many with the spelling of the line's early generations (the first three)as Condict. Source: Proceedings of the New Jersey Historical Society, New Series, Volume IX, 1924, "Death Records from An Old Diary" 1772-1778, regarding the Jemima Condict Revolutionary War Boston Tea Party diary that confirms Samuel (of Peter of John the ancestor). Samuel's grandfather, Samuel Condict(3rd generation), is found on FAG here: Samuel Condict on the family memorial for John the ancestor and his son Peter, etc.
NOTE: Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)also has him shown as CONDICT in their GRC database, although their spelling algorithm "Soundix" system (that uses the verbal sounds of surnames, shows Condict as Condit ), shows Condit in its GRS index database.
