Our sweet sister Sherry Barney, age 60, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2015. She was born on January 29, 1955, the sixth child of Wayne Franklin Barney and Roma Bell Henrie Barney in Ogden, Utah.

Because of Sherry’s disabilities we were told that she would probably not live beyond two years of age, but we were blessed to have her for another 58 years beyond that.

Sherry’s childhood years were spent in Washington Terrace, she then attended Utah State Training School in American Fork and eventually spent the majority of her life living in Riverton in a group home where she was a favorite of all who knew her. In February of this year she was moved to live near her brother Steven and his family near Downey, Idaho, for her last few months.

Sherry attended Relief Society and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One of her favorite songs to sing was “I am a Child of God.”

She was also a Special Olympic Medalist and proud of it!

Sherry is survived by her brothers, Robert Wayne, Leslie A. and Steven Barney; sisters, D. Irene Gardner, Roma Lee Peterson and Michele Harris; and nieces and nephews who dearly loved her sweet spirit and joyful smile.

Sherry was preceded in death by her nephew, Curtis Lew White; parents; and grandparents who are surely glad to be reunited with her.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
