Minnie was the fifth child born to John and Mary Guest. She grew up and educated in Mariposa county. She met John McMillan and host engineer in the mining industry. Minnie and John were married in Merced, CA on June 7, 1905. After a honeymoon in San Francisco the couple made their home at Mount Gaines in Mariposa county.
John became a watch maker and worked at that trade in the railroad town of Dunsmuir, CA. Several years later they moved to Colusa, CA where they opened a jewelry/watch repair and drug store.
While John managed that store, Minnie opened a sweet shop selling ice cream and candy.
They had a son, that died at birth, and two daughters Cora and Eleanor.
