Willie was born to Lovie Bell Hughes and Sam Denham. He had one sister, Bertie. Willie had been married and divorced to Maud "Mossie" Phelps for a short time in 1914-1915. There were no children in this union. He entered the Army 1919 and discharged in July 1922 at the age of 30. His death certificate says he died of pneumonia and is buried in Love Cemetery.

Gravesite Details

Headstone photo taken in 1963, he was next to his mother, Lovie Denham. Buried on Aug. 23, 1947. In 1978 his stone was missing. Stone should say, US Army Pvt. Co. D. 29th Infantry KY. Cemetery. Love Cemetery is in the middle of a pasture.
