She was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, January 31, 1915, a daughter of the late Giovanni and Anna (Olivia) Fucci.
She is survived by her daughters Lawrene Groobert and Lyvia Powers King and her husband Donald, grandsons Lawrence Groobert and his wife Rona, John Powers and his wife Aimee, and Todd Powers and his wife Karen. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Joshua Powers, Matthew Powers, Rebekah Powers, Kaylee Powers, and Cameron Powers
She was predeceased by her brothers Pat Fucci, Frank Fucci, Andrew Fucci, and Fred Fucci, and her son-in-law John Powers Sr.
Throughout her 100 1/2 year life, she was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an accomplished realtor, talented seamstress, lifelong dog-lover, and active member of the First Baptist Church of Wallingford,
For her 100th birthday Mayor Dickinson declared January 31, 2015 as Lucy Groobert Day. The General Assembly of the State of Connecticut also gave her an Official Citation introduced by Rep. Mary Fritz in recognition of her spirit and giving nature as a model for everyone.
