PONTOTOC – Michael Anthony "Tony" Murphree, 42, was born on August 3, 1973, to James Ottis and Barbara Murphree. He passed away September 10, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. Tony was a graduate of Pontotoc High School and received an Associates Degree from Itawamba Community College. Tony was employed as a Field Representative for Family Dollar, but is mostly known by the many years he spent as an employee of Walmart. Tony attended Vine Church where he played the piano and led the singing. When he was not playing or singing at church, Tony loved every opportunity he could get to sing at festivals and local concerts. As much as Tony loved country music and Nashville, he loved his family and friends more, and they loved him as well.
Services will be today, September 12, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dean Moody and Bro. Brandon Murphree officiating. Burial will follow at West Heights Cemetery. Baldwin- Nowell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Tony is survived by his mother, Barbara Murphree; one sister, Sherrie (Larry) Poe; one brother, Tim (Susan) Murphree; two nieces, Mallory (Tim) Moss and Lindsey Murphree; three nephews, Matthew (Kayla) Poe, Brandon (Melanie) Murphree and Ben Murphree.
He is preceded in death by his father, James Ottis Murphree; grandparents, Linzy and Alfie Tutor Bouchillon and Ruby Keith Bell.
Pallbearers to serve will be Ben Murphree, Matthew Poe, Tim Moss, Josh Barnett Dylon Baldwin and Stark Aldridge.
