OBITUARY FOR:
Barbara L. Arntzen
1939 - 2015

Barbara L. Arntzen (nee Butterfield), age 76. Barbara passed away at Edward hospital in Naperville on Thursday, August 27, with her children at her side. She was born in Sycamore, IL on July 21, 1939, to Albert W. and Kathleen (Stady) Butterfield, and grew up in Ottawa and Joliet.

Barb attended Joliet Township High School and Illinois State University, during which time she was active in choir and Madrigals, and also served as an accompanist and vocalist in church services and weddings. She had an early career as a reading and English teacher at the elementary and junior high levels in the Troy School District, as well as coaching volleyball and cheerleading.

She married Jack Arntzen in 1969, and they moved to Naperville in 1970 to raise their family. Her artistic skills returned to the forefront in later years as she became very involved in costume design for many local dance and high school productions, created bridal headpieces and wedding cakes, and eventually found a special niche in collage, working and exhibiting through Collage Collective and the Midwest Collage Society. She was also a long-time volunteer for the Naperville Public Library, making deliveries for homebound patrons.

She is survived by her son, Karl; daughter, Kristi (Ray DeBruler); stepsons, Cole (Sandra), Steven (Diana), and Michael; brother, Alan (Sherry) Butterfield; nieces and nephews, Amy (Carl) Elliott, Russell Butterfield, Tom (Susan) Hewitt, Jeff (Naomi) Hewitt, and Dana Haselton; and her dearly treasured grandchildren, Elysia, Kelsey (Stephen), Marissa, John, Rhett, Joe, Megan, Elizabeth, Jamie, and Nora.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; and her stepson, Timothy.

There will be a memorial celebration of Barb's life on Friday, September 25, 2015 at Knox Presbyterian Church in Naperville. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m.

The family extends its gratitude to the staff of Edward Hospital, Tabor Hills Healthcare Facility, and Residential Hospice for their exceptional care of our mother and friend.

Donations in Barb's memory may be made to the Naperville Public Library, http://www.naperville-lib.org/content/volunteerdonation; or call, 630-637-6150.
