Casualty of the Great War, Harry was a fireman in the Mercantile Marine - S.S. "Conargo" (London)


Harry was part of the ten-man crew when his ship S.S. "Conargo" (London) was hit on Easter Sunday off the coast of the Calf of Man, Isle Of Man ( 5402N 0511W). They were in a lifeboat waiting for an order to abandon ship when they were all killed after an attack from a German U-boat (Heinrich Jeß)


He was the son of Harry and Sarah Aldwinckle (nee Bailey) of 11 Dock House Rd., Grays, Essex. Born at Corby, Northants.
