Bernice was born and raised in Hanover and Alta, Iowa. After high school she went to business school in Omaha and then worked for a period of time at Citizens Bank in Storm Lake. She met her husband, Leo, at the Cobblestone Inn Ballroom and later married.

Together, they farmed north of Newell for many years. Eventually, they wintered in Arizona and became full time residents in 2008.

In 2015, they celebrated 70 years of marriage with their children and Arizona friends. Bernice was known for loving her husband, church, family, and friends. She enjoyed people and over the years taught Sunday school, was an active NCN club member, golfed, and made many friends as an Amway Distributor. Bernice’s love for life was evident each day in her positive, beautiful, caring, and giving spirit.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Leo Grau; children: Sharon (Thurman) Gilbert of Sun Lakes, Arizona; Carmen (Barry) Miller of Sun Lakes, Arizona; Tom Grau of Newell, Iowa; two grandchildren: Justin Gilbert of Chandler, Arizona and Michelle (Tyler) Hendricks of Des Moines, Iowa.
