Chester B. Caldwell, 75, East Freedom, died Wednesday morning at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg after an extended illness.
He was born in McKee, son of the late Boyd and Linnie (Claar) Caldwell.
He married Carole D. Stevenson on Oct. 11, 1980.
Surviving are his wife; five children: Deb Settle and husband, Dave, of Martinsburg, Nancy Day and husband, Larry, of James Creek, Scott and wife, Cathy, of McKee, Dennis of Columbus, Ohio, and Pam Eberhart and husband, Mark, of Duncansville; seven grandchildren: Jason Settle, Erin Caldwell, Brian Caldwell and wife, Lorena, Nathan Caldwell, Mark Settle, Kyle Eberhart and Weston Eberhart; and five sisters: Marie Bloom of Clearfield, Daisy Morgret of East Freedom, Mary Dibert of Claysburg, Ruth Wheeland and husband, Frank, of Duncansville and Sandra Caldwell of East Freedom.
He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Chester was a 1958 graduate of Roaring Spring High School. He retired from Food Lion and previously had worked at A&P and Riverside, where he had served as manager and meat cutter in the meat departments of all three. He also owned and operated Caldwell's Butcher Shop in McKee for more than 50 years. He served as a dog law officer for many townships and boroughs in Blair County for more than 30 years and had served as constable for more than 20 years.
Chester was a member of Leamersville Church of the Brethren. He was a life member of the Chimney Rocks Beagle Club and member and past president of the Freedom Township Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed hunting, and he and his wife enjoyed raising and training beagles together. He received his first trophy in 1967.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, by Chester's brother-in-law, Pastor Frank Wheeland.
Interment will be made in Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring.
