Deanna was the daughter of the late Sam Asterino and Helen Pizatella Asterino. She was born at the family home in Watson on April 22, 1941. She died Tuesday, September 8, 2015. She was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, Fairmont State College, and West Virginia University. She began her teaching career in 1972 at Anna Jarvis Elementary School in Grafton as a classroom teacher and later a school reading specialist. In 1975 she was presented the Jaycees Outstanding Young Educator Award. She moved to the Taylor County Board Office as an administrator in 1991. She retired in 2000 as Director of Instruction and Federal Programs. She received the Federal Education Programs Leader Award. She worked as an adjunct professor for WVU. She was known nationally as a presenter to educators and a grant-writing consultant for publishing companies such as Light Span, Plato, and Leap Frog with a success rate in the ninety percentile. Her professional career ended in 2006 when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She then authored a cookbook entitled Heritage Cookbook of the Piscitelli and Vetere Families.
The most important part of her life was her family. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Lewis Eugene "Gene" Weaver; her son, Chris A. Weaver and wife LaDawn, his children Jessica Castillo (Sam), Lindsay Britton (John), and Haley Weaver (fiancé Zack Orgill) and their mother Debra Friend Weaver; her daughter Tracey L. Sears and husband Scott and their daughter, Devin; her great grandchildren Allie, Bruce, and Adrian Castillo and Luke and Claire Britton.
She was also survived by her brother Joe Asterino (Marianna); sisters Judy Lusher (Gary) and Barbara Skinner (Rick); sister-in-law Diana Asterino; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Asterino.
Family and friends may call at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday September 12, in the funeral home with Brian Cole and Deanna’s nephew, Tommy Baron officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Harmony Cemetery in Harmony Grove.
