1775 - 1783: Served at various times in the Revolutionary War in the North Carolina troops under Captains James Jack, John Polk (his father), Charles Polk (his uncle), Oliver Wiley and Fletcher, and Colonels Adam Alexander and Thomas Polk (his uncle).

1814: War of 1812 Service Records - Served as a Sergeant for 5 months and 28 days in Captain Edward Turner's Mounted Spies Company, Tennessee.

He married Caroline Margaret Baxter in 1782.
