Private Gooden is one of only a few Civil War Black Soldiers buried in the National Cemetery. He served with the 127th U.S. Colored Troops.He enrolled August 26, 1864, with Co. C, 127th U.S. Colored Troops. He gave laborer as his occupation and stood 5' 3" tall with black hair and black eyes.
