Son of Rueben Briant and Nancy Tolleson.

Married Mary "Polly" Stone in 1831. Father of 10 children.

Note that his surname was spelled Bryant in the 1850 and 1860 census as well as in his newspaper obituary. It was spelled Briant in the 1870 and 1880 census, on his tombstone and his marriage license to Lou M. Pafford.
