He 'suffered' as a Quaker: with 80 others, he was summoned to Quarter Sessions at Wetherby, January 1683, where he was indicted for absence from parish church; refused to deny the indictment; refused to take the oath of allegiance; and was committed to prison. Refused to be sworn as a constable, and fined, 1691. Fined also for refusing to pay tithes, 1707.
