He was born to Albert and Helen Johnson Loose. On May 29, 1942, he married Ozetta Wagler in Burlington.
He was a granduate of Burlington High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of world War II, serving in the Signal Corps as a staff sergeant. He served as a cryptologic message center chief, supervising 25, enlistees and providing decoded communications directly to Gen. Omar Bradley. He was a senior weapons inspecrtor, U.S. Atomic Energy Commision, with the Iowa Army Ammunition Pland until his retirement in 1974. Following his retirement, he worked as an associate at Pioneer Supply Co. in Burlington. He was a lifelong member of First United Church of Christ in Burlington. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; the American Association of Retired Persons; and Burlington Civic Music. He was a former member of the Eagle Service Organization. His interests included reading, church activities, golf, table tennis, and throwing horseshoes. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
Survivors include his wife; son, Greg Loose of Woodbridge, Virginia; two grandchildren; and brother, Donald Loose.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and two brothers.
The funeral was held at First United Church of Christ with the Rev. JudyAnn Morse officiating.
