Curtis Freemont Higgins, Sr., 66, of Lexington, died Wednesday, August 12, 1998 in the University of Virginia Hospital. He was born August 13, 1931 in Rockbridge County a son of the late James Edward Higgins Sr. and Lottie Hostetter Higgins. Mr. Higgins was a retired insurance agent for the Transport Life Insurance Company. He was a member of the Blue Ridge Baptist Church, Buena Vista. Mr. Higgins was preceded in death by a son, Mark W. Higgins; a daughter-in-law, Vicki C. Higgins; a granddaughter, Miranda F. Higgins; and a brother, James E. Higgins Jr. Survivors include six sons and daughters-in-law, C.F. (Monty) Jr. and Annie C. Higgins of Staunton, Milton E. Higgins, Brunswick, Md., Michael S. Higgins, Manassas, Manley A. and Debra A. Higgins, Annandale, Matthew W. and Linda M. Higgins, Gainesville, and Malcolm D. Higgins, Fairfax; one brother and sister-in-law, Marion Leo and Ruby L. Higgins, Staunton; three sisters and brother-in-law, Anna H. Engleman, Fairfield, Dessie H. and Claude O. Hartbarger, Lexington and Mary H. Hostetter, Lexington; sister-in-law, Isabelle C. Higgins, Buena Vista; nine grandchildren, Shannon, Kurt, Monica, Nathan, Laura, Adam, Micah, Matthew and Mariah Higgins; two great-grandchildren, Skyler and Jacob Higgins; numerous nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews who were very dear to him. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 1998 in the Blue Ridge Baptist Church, Buena Vista with Pastor John Art Brumit officiating. Interment will follow in the Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Ridge Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 1998 at the Williams Funeral Service, Lexington.
