James Earl Koonce was born December 29, 1944 in the Buncombe Community of Panola County, Texas, to William T. and Flora Ruso Koonce. James was a graduate of Milby High School in Houston and later received an Associate's Degree from Panola College. Mr. Koonce served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict and was aboard the USS Lexington. He married Alice Sue Campbell in 1973 and they celebrated 43 years together. James was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Gary and enjoyed hunting, fishing, barbequing, and spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Herbert Koonce.
