Lucy H. Moore passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015, at 10:20 p.m. four months after celebrating her 100th birthday. She went home to the Lord peacefully in her daughter's home, while very quietly singing.

She was born in Knott County, Kentucky in the spring of 1915. She lived there for 51 years until moving to Indiana. As a resident of Kendallville for 49 years, she worked at Kendallville Laundry until she retired. A very hard working homemaker and mother, she dedicated her life to raising nine children.

Lucy was known as "Grandma" to many more than just her family. She was the most loving, giving, caring, kind, thoughtful, selfless, devoted sister, mother, grandmother, and friend God could ever give. There are not enough kind words to describe her.

An excellent example of a Christian, she gave her heart to Christ many years ago. She was a member of Beacon Baptist Church before becoming a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church. Lucy was very faithful until her health no longer allowed her to attend. She continued to read her Bible, pray, and witness to anyone who would listen. Everyone was welcomed in her home with open arms and were served with her very best.

She is survived by six daughters, Annette Moore of Crittenden, Kentucky, Barb (James) Messmer of Florence, Kentucky, Sara Chaffins of Garrett, Bertha Jeannie (Ollie) Shepherd, Glema (Richard) Prater, and Ora (Ron) Goldner all of Kendallville; three sons, Billy (Barb) Moore, Barkley (Sue) Moore both of Kendallville, Larry (Mary Jane) Moore of Avilla; 21 grandchildren, Billy Moore, Jr., Melissa Bishop, Wendy Moore, Melissa Shaw, Tiffany Rivero, Pam Shepherd, James Martin, Christina Chaffins, Stephanie Simpson, Jennifer Prater, Jonathan Prater, Kristie Beall, Aimee Goldner, Andrea Guerrero, Donna Bielski, Paula Gardner, Kelvin Moore, Eric Messmer, Susan Harris, Karen Wilson, and Kim Kunze; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorsie Patton of Eastern, Kentucky; and a half brother, Roger Hicks of Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Brian Phillip Chaffins and Amanda Jean Chaffins; a son-in-law, Larry Chaffins; two sisters, Flossie Wicker and Beulah Nichols; and three brothers, Huey Hicks, Curtis Hicks, and Ballard Hicks, Jr.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at 11 a.m. in New Hope Baptist Church, 2900 N 500 E, Kendallville, with Pastor Robert Boston officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September, 1, 2015, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.
