He attended LaGrange Church of God for many years. Mr. Hicks served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, serving in the Medic Division. He was employed by General Motors in Parma in assembly over 30 years in the transmission department, before retiring in 1987.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening, and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jacqueline Prater Hicks; sons, Fred (Karen) Hicks of Chippewa Lake, Ohio, Steve (Renee) Hicks of LaGrange, Gary (Dianne) Hicks of St. Petersburg, Florida; seven grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; sisters, Lucy Moore of Kendallville, Indiana, Dorsey Patton of Eastern, Kentucky, Barbara Shepard of Dema, Kentucky; brother, Roger Hicks of West Liberty, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ballard and Ora Hicks; step-mother, Mellie Hicks; sisters, Flossie Wicker and Beualh Nickels; and brothers, Hewie and Curtis Hicks.
The body lay in state in the LaGrange Church of God, 502 North Center St., LaGrange, Ohio, on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 from 6 to 8 P.M., and funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 11 A.M., at the church with the Rev. Danny Wright, Pastor officiating. Burial took place in River Road Cemetery, LaGrange Township.
Family suggest memorials be made to Hospice of Medina Co. or to the LaGrange Fire Dept.
