Dr. John Brickwede
Dr. John L. Brickwede, 75, former Mariettan, died at Akron [ correction: Salem ] on Tuesday.
He was born in Marietta and was a son of the laste Charles H.F. and Johana F. Brickwede. His wife, Mrs. Aileen Brickwede, died in 1949.
After graduating from Marietta College in 1910 and Western Reserve School of Medicine in 1914, he served a year's internship in Cleveland and served for two years as a physician for the Firestone Rubber Co. before entering private practice. He was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity and of Phi Beta Kappa. He was also a member of the American Medical Association, the Optimist Club of Akron, the Masonic Lodge of Akron and the Baptist church.
His twin sister, Mrs. Nellie McCoy, died April 15, 1959. Two brothers and one other sister preceded him in death, Charles O. Brickwede, Fred M. Brickwede and Mrs. Lydia Ludwig.
Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Charles O. Brickwede and Mrs. Fred M. Brickwede of Marietta and the following nephews and nieces, Beman Ludwig of Salem; Miss Mildred Ludwig of Meadville, Pa.; Mrs. Helen Myers of Salem; Mrs. J.B. Hanson of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Owen T. Williams of Cleveland; Mrs. E.E. Stanley and Mrs. Lawrence M. Bell of Marietta. There are 6 grandnephews and 3 grandnieces.
Funeral services will be held at the Schermesser Funeral Home in Akron Friday afternoon. The body will be brought to the Doudna & McClure Funeral Home where friends may call after 11 a.m. Saturday. Short funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
