SHERMAN – Morgan Taylor, 85, passed away Friday, August 28, 2015, in his home. He was born March 3, 1930, to Warren and Lois Morgan Taylor. Morgan was a self-made man and started his own successful businesses, one of which being, Taylor's Appliances. A lifelong salesman, he thoroughly enjoyed meeting and speaking with the public. Morgan and his wife had the gift of hospitality and were always entertaining friends and newcomers in their home. He spent any spare moment working in his garden and enjoyed cooking. He was a member of Sherman Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a long time Sunday school teacher.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2015, at the Jefferson Street Chapel with Bro. Justin Varnon and Bro. Marty Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Rakestraw (Mike) of Tupelo and Mary Bell (Ronnie) of Tupelo; two sons, Everett Taylor (Peggy) of Sherman and Paul Taylor (Ann) of Blue Springs; a sister, Hazel Lenz of Ashland; two brothers, Calvin Taylor of Ashland and Leman Taylor (Anne) of Sherman; brother-in-law, John Dillard (Ruby) of Blue Springs and Jimmy Dillard (Betsy) of Tupelo; seven grandchildren, Suzanne Roberts (Marty) of Blue Springs, Nia Brown (Brian) of Pontotoc, Austin Taylor and Will Taylor of Pensacola, Florida, Chris Rakestraw (Kim) of Faulkner, Jesse Rakestraw of Tupelo and Wesley Bell (Alley) of Oxford; seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both parents; his beloved wife of 60 years, Joan Dillard Taylor; and many brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Sherman Baptist Church.
