Arntzen, John D. "Jack," age 75, a 44-year resident of Naperville, Jack died peacefully at Edward Hospital on Monday, June 16, having been surrounded by his family on Father's Day. He was born in Oak Park, IL on July 30, 1938, to John C. and Gladys (Renwick) Arntzen, and grew up in Elmhurst. He was the loving husband of Barbara (nee Butterfield); proud father of Cole (Sandra), Steven (Diana), Michael, Karl, and Kristen (Ray DeBruler); and dear Papa of Elysia, Kelsey, Marissa, John, Joe, Rhett, Megan, Elizabeth, Jamie, and Nora. Jack is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Dean Hewitt and Alan Butterfield; sister-in-law, Sherry Butterfield; numerous nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews; as well as his former spouse, Carroll Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice Hewitt; and son, Timothy. Jack attended York Community High School and Purdue University and worked as a chemical engineering technician at Argonne National Laboratory for 38 years, where he was a two-time recipient of the Pacesetter Award. Jack was an intelligent, practical, and capable man who always looked out for his family. His boundless curiosity allowed him to pursue conversation with almost anyone, on almost any subject. He loved the Great Lakes, boating and camping, and vintage cars. He was a longtime member and treasurer of the Wheaton Rifle Club and enjoyed regular lunches with former Argonne colleagues. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 26, 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m., at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington Street in downtown Naperville.
