Obituary in the Great Southern Herald (Katanning) of Sep. 2, 1944: LATE WALTER ROGERS. The death occurred suddenly on Saturday, August 26, of Mr Walter Rogers, at the age of 80 years, the funeral taking place on Monday afternoon, when his remains were interred in the Baptist portion of the Katanning Cemetery in the presence of a large concourse of relatives and friends. The Rev. J. Wilson Brown conducted the service. The late Mr Walter Rogers was born on January 28, 1864, at Colchester, Essex, where he served his time with a noted firm of watch-makers, subsequently working at his trade with various watchmaking firms in England. Health reasons brought him to Western Australia in 1912, where he joined his brothers Ted and Will, at Katanning, and set up in business in his trade on his own account. This business was carried on for 32 years, to the time of his death. He was married twice, the second time to Mrs W. Truslove (nee Beeck), his family comprising four children by the first marriage, and two by the second. Well liked and highly respected by all who knew him, the late Mr Rogers was a prominent member of the Baptist community and secretary of the Loyal Orange Lodge, No. 4 Katanning, for many years. Chief mourners present at the graveside were his widow, Mrs N. E. Kowald (daughter), Mr Arthur Rogers (son), Mr E. A. Rogers (brother), Mr N. E. Kowald (son-in-law), Mrs E. A. Rogers (sister-in-law), and nieces and nephews. Pall-bearers were Messrs R. Proseer, J. Barkley, F. A. Rogers, J. Boxall, R. McGregor and L. Beeck. Funeral arrangements were in the hands of Messrs C. E. Courtis and Co., Katanning.
