"Rev. John W. Colwell, died April 27, 1852, aged 41 years.

He was ordained Sept. 3, 1841, at Rehoboth, Mass., where he continued to preach four years. Then, after one year at Charlestown and Richmond, R.I., he settled in Cranston, R.I., where he continued five years, built up a church and erected a house of worship. He was an earnest, devoted laborer.

He started for California with benevolent designs, but died suddenly on the passage, lamented by his church and his many friends."
