Entered into rest, in Gaston county, N. C., March 23, 1889, Mrs. Barbara S. A. Aderhold (nee Crouse); aged 42 years, 3 months, and 2 days.
Consecrated to God in holy baptism, instructed in the doctrines and duties of our holy religion, our departed sister in Christ was received into full communion with St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran church in early youth, in whose communion she lived a Godly, Christian life and died in the blessed assurance of the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. She was one of the very best women to be found in any community or in any church. She adorned her Christian profession in all things. ''None knew her but to love her." She lived and died the friend of all. That she was highly esteemed in the community in which she spent her noble, self-sacrificing life, was very apparent on the day of the solemn funeral services. Never has the writer seen so large a congregation of sympathizing friends and such genuine sympathy for the grief-stricken family. All felt that a good woman has been taken away and her place on earth can never be filled. Many and bitter were the tears shed as we thought of the loving bond Broken, never to be re-united in this world, and of the solitary home bereft of the tender companionship and loving devotion of a beloved wife and loving mother—the life, the light, the joy and the sunshine of that truly happy Christian home. Ah! our grief hath need of tears! But we will comfort our poor bleeding hearts with the precious thought that our Heavenly Father knows best, that all of his plans are right, and that he doeth all things well. We will not murmur or complain. "It is the Lord; let him do as seems him good." "Even so Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight." "Nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt."
Let us comfort our poor bleeding hearts with the blessed assurance that death to her was infinite and eternal gain, that she has entered into the rest which remains to the people of God, that she has gone to a better home than ever earth knew—that dear home beyond the skies where sorrows never come and pleasures never tire—that, washed in the blood of the Lamb, she is forever with the Lord in that temple not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Let the memory of her unselfish life of devotion to God and man, of her sweet, noble, Christian example and Godly life, strengthen our faith and quicken our steps heavenward whither she has gone. May our dear Father in Heaven in his infinite mercy grant that the same childlike faith and love, so characteristic of her whose mortality we deplore, may be and abound in the disconsolate husband and motherless children, to their spiritual and eternal salvation through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and that they may all be one in Christ at his appearing in the last day.
