American Viscose Corp. estimator, WWII veteran

Joseph F. Mercadante, 83, of Middletown, an estimator for the American Viscose Corp. and decorated World War II veteran, died Sept. 12 at Riddle Memorial Hospital.

Born, reared and educated in Chester, Mr. Mercadante worked as an estimator in the engineering department of the American Viscose Corp. in Marcus Hook, retiring in 1975. He later worked in the shipping department for Fibre Metal Products Co. in Aston. He resided in Middletown for 40 years.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Mercadante served in the Army from 1941-1945 in Germany. He received the Good Conduct Medal American Defense Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with one Bronze Star.
Mr. Mercadante was the son of the late Charles and Anastasia McEntee Mercadante. He was the brother of the late Robert Mercadante and Mary Cardile.
Survivors: Wife of 58 years, Helen Parker Mercadante son, Peter Joseph Mercadante of Media daughters, Lois Sharpe of Longview, Texas, Donna Gensel of Folsom, Ridley Township brothers, William Mercadante of Brookhaven., Raymond Mercadante of Wilmington, Del. sisters, Dorothy Prendergast of Wallingford, Nether Providence, Jean Edge of Port St. Lucie, Fla. two grandchildren two great-grandchildren.
Mass: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nativity BVM Church, Monroe and Franklin streets, Media.
Visitation: 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at the church.
Burial: Perryhawkin Cemetery, Princess Ann, Md.
Contributions: Salvation Army, Chester Branch, 151 W. 15th St., Chester, PA 19013.
