Mr. Colin Voils Davis, Sr., 89, formerly of 905 Henkel Rd. Statesville, passed away on Wednesday morning January 2, 2013 at Davis Regional Medical Center. Born July 16, 1923 in Harmony, N.C., he was a son of the late William Laben Davis and Nellie White Davis. He was a graduate of Harmony High School and Draughons Business School. He was married to the former Elgevia Withers. Mr. & Mrs. Davis enjoyed over 61 years of marriage. He spent three years in the U. S. Army Air Force in World War II on Tinian Island in a B-29 outfit where the Enola Gay was stationed for its mission to Hiroshima, Japan. He retired as a self-employed textile representative. He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church and a former member of Race Street United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the finance committee for a number of years and as a trustee and on the administrative board. He was preceded in death by brothers: William Young Davis, James White Davis, Paul Eugene Davis, Ralph Watson Davis and sisters, Helen Davis Mooney and Lucile Davis Lanier.
Survivors include his wife, Elgevia W. Davis, two sons, Jeffery Withers Davis of Marietta, Ga. and Colin V. Davis, Jr. (Susan) of Mooresville, a sister, Madolin David Hudson, 3 special grandchildren: Colin V. Davis, III., Matthew Robert Davis and Chelsea Elizabeth Davis along with special nieces Susan Lanier Bolick and Carolyn Lanier Steed.
Services celebrating Mr. Davis' life will be conducted at 2 :00 on Saturday at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Dr. Michael Gehring officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The
