He was always willing to help others and share his knowledge. At almost 97 years of age, he outlived two wives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, all six of his brothers and sisters, his first wife Gertrude Merrill, his second wife Dora Genee Allen Tyler, and his son Gary Lynn West.

He is survived by his current wife Marjorie Pauline Staniford, his children Karren (Mark) Talbot, Eilene (Mike) Jones, Pam (Malin) Querry, Shirlee (Lane) Bueche, Kevin (Jodi) West, and Kathleen (Doug) Downs and his stepchildren Kathryn (Doug) Hall, Annette (David) Skoubye, Ken (Marilyn) Tyler, Rita, Marie (Jesse) Kemp, Jean (Doug) Denning, Harold (Alicia) Crawford, Kathy (Val) Wawrzyniak, John (Sherry) Crawford, Pat Crawford, Paul Crawford, and Michelle (Jason) Burnette. He also served two missions for the church, one in Ghana, West Africa and the other in Singapore/Malaysia.

He served in the Army in World War II. He and his son Kevin were able to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in September 2014.

He loved Country/Western music and often came in the house from work singing one of the songs he heard on the way home. He worked at Winder Dairy as a milkman for 20 years and attributes his long life to running every day on the milk route and healthy eating.

He would gather wood every summer from neighbors cutting down trees and chop it up to burn in his fireplace in the winter. He loved to tell people who were paying $100 to $200 for their heating bill in January that he was only paying $20.
