Charles Merriman was the son of Charles M Merriman and Paulina Burbank. Husband of Adaline Hubbell. My great uncle. He married Adaline in Farmington, MI in 1872. Charles' name is engraved on the Merriman family momument, and he is buried on the left side.

"Charles Merriman was a very devout christian man that never wavered from his faith. His word was gospel to all that knew him, be it banker or debtor, for the integrity of his name won him great respect that few men come to know! He was a stern godly man, of strict discipline and firm restraint, and was not warped by the deception of worldly enticements. No man could ever say a bad word against his noble character, it stood as a monument of firmness, of generosity and integrity. There was nothing sordid about him, he was a prince among men! Charles
was not a man to stand by when he saw others suffering, he had to reach out in love in every way possible to eleviate their pain. All the Merrimans were noted for their compassion and serving others!

The Merriman's, and Handyside's alike, were some of the founders of Wayne, Michigan. They were not one's to take lightly their responsibility to God, and to country. If something needed to be done, they were the first ones to offer help, be it food for the hungry, money for a need, or the sweat of their brow, they were there! Charles was born in Dearborn Township, by Wayne. When he was just a young boy his father moved the family to the Merriman farm in Nankin Township, in Wayne, Michigan. Later, he worked for The Central Railroad and arose to the position of Conductor. The last twenty-five years of his life he
spent working the farm, that his father carved out of the wilderness.

As a young man, Charles became a devout lover for the game of baseball and was an enthusiast right up to the end. He knew the record of every player in the major clubs and knew the history of baseball as few knew it. Charles, and his best friend, Dr. Marker, use to play ball together all the time, right up to the end. Dr. Marker would make reference to his old friend, Charlie, about the hard old games they played together, him behind the bat, and how old Charlie would throw him his famous drop ball! Dr.
Marker would take notice of how those old would light up at just the mention of those good ole times"

~~written by Charles M Merriman & George Handyside descendant.

The third photo is a photo taken during a Merriman family reunion in 1913 where the Detroit Tigers once played. I'm certain my uncle had been there because of his love for baseball.
