Obituary:

On Monday, April 1st, 1895, CASSIUS M. LAZENBY, aged 51 years.

The deceased had not long been a resident of Lemoore. He had formerly resided in Tulare and Los Angeles. He was a marble worker by trade but had been unable to pursue his calling for some time owing to declining health. He leaves a wife and one child, two brothers and an aged father who reside near Los Angeles.

He was a veteran soldier of the late war having enlisted in 1861, in the 7th Iowa Infantry at the age of 17 years. He followed Grant in his maiden battle at Belmont and received a wound in both hips but was able to escape capture. He was discharged for these wounds, and having sufficiently recovered enlisted again in 1862, in m Co. I of the 9th Iowa Calvary, serving until the close of the war. At the time of his death he was the recipient of a small pension from the government he had served so well.

The funeral was conducted by the writer, by request, as a fellow "comrade," assisted by Mrs. S. P. Carr, who delivered a brief address and by Mrs. Stetson who read an appropriate poem. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Routt assisted by several others kindly conducted the singing at the house and at the grave.
