In the January 1, 1925, Census for Fremont, Mahaska County, Iowa, Emma stated that her parents were William and Elizabeth (Allmond) Mellot. In the 1900 Census for Franklin, Ness County, Kansas, 14-year-old Emma J. was living with her parents, Willi and Elizabeth A., and her brother Joe and six sisters. (Name spelled Malott in that census. In 1910, William Melott was still in Franklin, Kansas, widowed, and living with his son Joe and four of his daughters.)

I was not able to find a marriage record for James and Emma, but in the 1910 Census for Garfield, Finney County, Kansas, James and Emma Craft were living with their daughters Bertha D., age 9; and Florence L., age 3; and James' mother, Louisa Craft. In that Census, James and Emma stated they had been married for 9 years.
