Floyd William Stewart, (Papa Floyd), 78, of Yakima, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015 in Yakima. Floyd was a man of Great Pride, Love, Honor and Laughter. He was born on November 21, 1936 to Raymond and Ruby Stewart in Blytheville, Arkansas. A proven baseball star, Floyd had the opportunity to play professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals, right out of High School. He chose a different route and joined the Marine Corp to serve his country. Shortly after boot camp, Floyd had a stroke which ended his military career. After recuperation, Floyd started a family. He became a truck driver and fork lift operator and drove yearly from California to Washington State to work the crops.
Floyd enjoyed auto racing from Nashville, Tenn. to California and recently the Yakima Speedway, where he enjoyed working the pit gate. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren until a battle of cancer took him from us. He will be GREATLY MISSED. He is loving survived by his wife of 53 years, Ida, Two daughters; Johnnie Stewart and Debbie (Kevin) Furtado. Three sons; Michael Stewart, Bobby (Johnnie) Stewart and Steve (Valerie) Stewart. Thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents, a son Floyd Stewart Jr, a brother Paul Stewart and a sister Katie McFarland.
A graveside inurnment will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2015, 1:00 p.m. at Tahoma Cemetery Veterans section. Everyone is invited to continue to Celebrate his Life at Wixson Park in Selah following the graveside.
