Sarah Magdeline Helrigel was born 17 February 1860 at Black Horse Corners, North Dumfries Township, Waterloo, Ontario (which is near Galt), to William Helrigel and Sarah Crumback. She came to Michigan as a child with her family; they resided in Bowne Township, Kent County, Michigan. She married Adam Frederick Behler 24 March 1881 at Bowne. They rented a farm for nine years before buying the Behler homestead of 120 acres in Lowell Township. They had eight children: 6 sons and two daughters. Sarah died May 1951 at Grand Rapids.
