Leonard Alvin George, 79, of Edinburg, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Winchester Medical Center.
The funeral service will be held Friday, August 14, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at First Church of Columbia Furnace. Pastors Brian Duncan and Randy Whetzel will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. George was born February 13, 1936 in Columbia Furnace, Virginia, son of the late Leonard Jacob George and Gertrude Hollar George.
He was a trustee of Columbia Furnace Union Church for 47 years, he was one of the founding members of the First Church of Columbia Furnace.
He worked for Shenandoah Valley Electric Coop for 42 years without a loss time accident. He retired in 1998 to the farm where he was born and raised.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Keith Leonard George and Kent Robert George; and sister, Betty Jean Coffman.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet Eastep George; two sons, Kurt and his wife, Linda, of Edinburg, Kevin and companion, Jamee Hall, of Front Royal; daughter-in-law, Linda George (Kent) of Edinburg; sister, Rebecca Lee (Polly) McClanahan and husband, Howard (Peanut), of Woodstock; three grandsons, C.L. George, John George and Kevin Lee George; three granddaughters, Sarah Seal, Mandy Waybright and Gwyneth George; a great grandson, Gunner Waybright; and four great granddaughters, Katherine George, Hailey Waybright, Lainey George and Aaliyah George.
Pallbearers will be Tony George, Michael Clem, Eric Adams, Alfred Day, Scott Stickley, and Darrin Toby Markley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Phil Borden and Bobby Irwin Sr.
The family will receive friends Thursday, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at First Church.
