Mrs. Anna Engfer Dies After Brief Illness
Death Caused by Pneumonia;
Funeral Services Will Be Held Sunday


Death came to Mrs. Anna Engfer Wednesday afternoon at 2 00 o'clock at her home in Paullina. She had been ill since Sunday with bronchial pneumonia and up until that time had been active and in comparatively good health. Mrs. Engfer would have celebrated her eighty-sixth birthday anniversary the 1st of March.

Mr and Mrs. Engfer moved to Paullina from their farm near Calumet 21 years ago, and Mr Engfer preceded her in death about ten years ago.

She is survived by six children who are Mrs. Casper Durmich and Otto Engfer of Cherokee, the latter is visiting at Long Beach, Calif., at present; Fred Engfer and Mrs. Frank Zahn of Calumet, and Mrs. Harry Bloodgood and Anna Engfer of Paullina.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 00 o'clock at the home and at the Zion Lutheran church at 2.30 with the Rev. J Hart-meister officiating. A complete obituary will be printed next week.

Obituary of Mrs. Johanne Engfer

Johanne Anna Engfer, eldest child of Christian and Charlotte Peglow was born March 1, 1853 at Heinrich-Swalde German. She was baptized in the Lutheran church of her homeland. There she also grew into young womanhood.

At the age of 27, December 18, 1880, she was united in holy matrimony with Mr. Albert Engfer. 47 years they shared joys and sorrows with each other. Their first residence in America was at Kankakee, Illinois. After three years, 1885, they came to O'Brien county, Iowa, and lived on a farm. They joined St. Mark's church at the Mill Creek. In 1918 they retired from the farm and moved to Paullina.

Mr. Engfer died here June 8, 1927. Mrs. Engfer continued to live here with her children, Mr. and Mrs. Bloodgood. She enjoyed unusually good health until about a week ago when she was struck with pneumonia and succumbed to it Wednesday afternoon, Feb 15, 1939. Two sons and one daughter-in-law, four daughters and three sons-in-law, two brothers, Fred Peglow of Cherokee and August Peglow of Calumet, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends survive. She reached the ripe old age of 85 years, 11 months and 14 days.
