CARENCRO - Kelli Joan Abadie joined the angels on August 9, 2015. She was born September 28, 1972 with a rare disorder that affected her heart, liver and kidneys, but never impaired her mind or determination. Pushing through the pain of uncontrollable itching and insomnia, she graduated from Lafayette High School and went on to become a dog handler at dog shows throughout the South. She was devoted to animals and if you ever had the honor of accompanying her to the zoo, it was like having your own personal tour guide with encyclopedic knowledge. As her energy levels waned, she watched more and more Food Network, saving her energy to cook amazing meals. Her wit was sharp and dry. In the hospital--after a peanut butter & banana smoothie was delivered 3 days in a row--she whispered, "Can someone tell Elvis to stop making the smoothies?" She loved the color pink, tulips & roses, Hello Kitty, popcorn, Target, Hawk's Crawfish and riding around at Lake Martin. She joked that one day she would start a local radio show called "A Little R&R." The entire show would be devoted to songs from Mitch Reed, Steve Riley or their combo, Racines.

Above all, she was a thoughtful daughter, sister, friend and mother to her furbaby, Thunder.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday.

A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Kelli is survived by her mother, Pauline Hebert; three sisters, Charmaine Albarado and her husband, Billy; Angela Abadie, Elizabeth Williams and her husband, Bruce: two brothers, James Abadie and his wife, Debra and Randy Abadie; seven nieces, two nephews, four great nieces, four great nephews and many cousins she considered friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clayton Abadie; brother, Mitchell Abadie; and niece Sara Ann Richard.

She never complained about her own medical situation, but the one thing that upset her more than anything was people who were given the gift of perfect health and then didn't take care of themselves. Remember Kelli by taking better care of yourself, eating a good (healthy) meal, reveling in the beauty of flowers or a dog's love. She is gone and free from pain, but will never be forgotten.

Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro, (337) 896-3232, is in charge of arrangements.
