She was baptized and confirmed at Roseni Lutheran Church and graduated from the Nora Elementary School. Ardis married Palmer Thormodsgard in Sioux Falls, SD on October 24, 1942. They farmed near Hudson, SD beginning March of 1950, near Beresford. In 1976, a year after Palmer's death, Ardis moved into Beresford where she has lived since. She was employed by Bethesda Nursing Home and the Crossroads Motel in Beresford.
Ardis was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, WELCA and the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. Ardis was honored to be designated as a Gold Star mother following Arvid's death in Vietnam in 1971. She enjoyed gardening, baking, canning, playing games with her children and grandchildren, and completing puzzles.
Her parents, husband, Palmer; son, Arvid; four brothers, Elwood, Harlan, Delmer and Howard Stene and her two sisters, Joan Price and Adele Ludwig preceded her in death.
She is survived by her three sons, Gaylord (Diane), Paul (Eilene) and Lynn (Deb), numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends, especially Wayne and Sharon Akland.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Bethesda of Beresford and Asera Care Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to Ardis.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
