Martha Jane Funk of Esdaile, Wis., left her earthly home on Saturday, Aug. 24, surrounded by her family.

Born Martha Jane Harding, the seventh child of Everett Jesse Harding and Juliette Dot Tyler Harding, on Sept. 21, 1920, Jane attended the Bay City school across the street from her home. She graduated from Red Wing High School in 1938 and attended River Falls Normal School. She met Arthur Funk while attending weekly dances at the Bay City Ballroom, and they married on Sept. 23, 1939. Together they raised six children and operated the family businesses.

Jane's focus was on her children and her love of painting. She greatly enjoyed her class time under the instruction of Rose Jacques and won several ribbons at the fair. Jane was a member of the Bay City Methodist Church, Esdaile Friendship Club, a Sunday school teacher, and 4-H leader for 26 years.

Jane is survived by her children, Steve (Maureen) Funk and Conrad (Mary) Funk, Bay City, Wis.; Mitzi (Lee) Holmes, Irvine, Calif.; Laurel Mason, Esdaile; Marthene (Bruce) Bang, Red Wing, Minn.; and Raynee (Tom) Farrell, Esdaile. "Grandma Great" will be missed by her 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by several nieces and nephews.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; her parents; three brothers; four sisters; her best friend, Anne Nimerfro

A Celebration of Life for Jane will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Esdaile with Pastor Mary Eide officiating. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the celebration. A private burial will take place later in the evening.
