Mr. Holck, who died at the age of 96, had lived in the Paullina community since 1894.
Chris Holck, a native of Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, was born March 21, 1856. In 1880, he emigrated to America and came to Bell Plaine, Iowa. The following year he moved to Cherokee.
On Mary 14, 1885, he was married to Helene [sic] Jensen. They farmed south of Marcus until 1894 when they moved to a farm north of Paullina. In May of that same year, Mrs. Holck died, leaving her husband and five small children.
In December of 1895 Mr. Holck was married to Augusta Graesing. They continued to farm until 1901 when they moved to Paullina. After the death of Mrs. Holck in May, 1947, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Meltvedt came to live with him until he sold his home and went to live with his son, John, in 1948. Since June, 1951, he had been a resident of the Brundage Nursing home in Primghar.
On Christmas Day he suffered a broken hip. He died at the Sioux Valley Hosipital at Cherokee Tuesday, December 30, 1952.
He leaves to mourn his death five children, Mr. Mathilda Giertz of Sacrament, California; John and George of Paullina; William of Cherokee; and Otto of Laurens. There are also twenty-one grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. One son, Peter, died in 1919.
