Grace Lapp was born September 24, 1919, in Brighton, Victoria, Australia, the daughter of Frederick George and Winifred Stella Carter Foreman, one of nine children. As a young girl, she worked as a nanny for an Australian family. When the war began, she worked in war factories from 1940 to just before her move to the US in 1946 to be with her new husband. She had met Henry Lapp, stationed at Camp Seymore, March 1942. They were married June 12, 1942 in Melbourne, Australia. When she arrived in the US he was working for his brother, Harold. Henry later farmed for himself until a 1954 move to Terry, when he began working for Buffalo Rapids Irrigation Project.
After his death in 1965, she moved to Glendive in 1967 with two children to raise alone, which she did under hard times. Her children were her purpose in life and she kept them a close, loving family.
She returned to Australia three times in the 1970's, once for a niece's wedding and later to care for her mother, staying from 1975 to 1984, when she returned to Wibaux. Because of ill health she moved to Billings in 1988, returning to Glendive in 1991, where she has resided since.
Mrs Lapp, 82, died December 11, 2001, in Glendive. Survivors include two sons, Clive (Judy) Lapp, Shepherd, and Doug (Vicki) Lapp, Savage; four daughters, Joyce (Don) Schaff, Wibaux, Barbara (Don) Vowel, Billings, Shirley (Art) Berube, TX, and Patricia (Gordon) Brodie, Glendive; five sisters, Margerate Tatt, Ethel Caughey, Dorothy Milhan, Joyce Armstrong, and Barbara Lucas, all of Victoria, Australia; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
