He was born May 1, 1930.
He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and served on active duty as a flight mechanic and bringing the wounded out of Korea.
The Long Beach airport was his first civilian job until he started the Lakewood Shopping Center Patrol Service employing service buddies. He studied criminology at the Long Beach State College and taught classes. He became the first chief of police and met with other colleges and Governor Reagan during the riots along with on TV newscasts.
After suffering a heart attack, he settled in Satsuma, Florida where be built The Hermits Cove Marina.
In 1986, he and his wife, Jacqueline Louise, returned to California.
After Jackie's death, he became the editor of Treasure Magazine and settled in Yucaipa. He became a writer like his brother Garth and had several books in print.
Lee gardened for two years at Yucaipa Village Mobile Home Estates where he resided and shared squash, corn, tomatoes and green beans with his friends and family. He also made cages and whatever what was needed for friends who rescued animals. He provided bird seed and greens to feed the critters along with assisting Ashley tend to the animals.
Lee got up everyday with a project and looked forward to his 84th birthday. He read a lit when he wasn't doing repairs on the mobile home he shared with his son Mike, sisters Shirle and nephew Killian. Every morning he could be seen sitting in the sunshine in the driveway. His chair will remain there to remind his friends of the chats they had.
He is survived by three sons — Michael, Patrick and Timothy Chandler; three grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister Shirle, four nephews and one niece.
His last words were "a new adventure."
Lee's funeral will be held on March 4 at 10 a.m. at St. Frances X. Cabrini Catholic Church at 12687 California St. He will receive military honors at his interment on March 4 at 1:30 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery.
His Irish wake will be held at 4 p.m. at the Yucaipa Village MHP clubhouse at 12830 Sixth St.
