Willard "Bill" Anderson, 93, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.

"Bill" was born on May 15, 1922 in Norcross, Minnesota the son of Robert and Susan (Thies) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith. Bill attended the Fergus Falls High School, after which he worked in the Civil Conservation Corps for one year. He then moved to Seattle, WA. and was employed by Boeing Aircraft as a skin fitter until 1942, when he was drafted into the US Army. He attended Radio Mechanic and Operator School at Scott Field, IL. Bill was then assigned to Radar School in Boca Raton, FL, prior to his Paratrooper training at Fort Benning, GA. Bill then served in France during World War II with the 13th Airborne Division as a paratrooper and glider man. On January 31, 1946, Bill was discharged at Camp McCoy in Wisconsin.

Bill and Helen Gerhardson were married on May 9, 1944, in Columbia, SC. Following the war, they made their home in Fergus Falls where he worked for the City of Fergus Falls as a water plant operator. In 1949, Bill started with the US Post Office, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion where he held different positions, including VFW Post Commander 1958-59, VFW Quartermaster, for seven years, and as an active member of VFW/American Legion Drill Team and Color Guard. Bill held lifetime memberships with the Elks, VFW, DAV and American Legion. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for thirty years. Bill was a craftsman and enjoyed carpentry work. He liked hunting, fishing, bowling and golf and always enjoyed his dogs.

He is survived by a sister, Pauline Glorvigen of Fergus Falls; brother, Robert Anderson of Becker; and by numerous relatives and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Helen on June 13, 1998; parents, Robert and Susan Anderson; sister, Alta Sha; two brothers, Raymond and Leslie Anderson; and by special friend Mary Jane Ross.

Funeral Mass: 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls.

Visitation: one hour prior to the Mass.

Clergy: Fr. Alan Wielinski

Military Honors: Harold T. Swenson VFW Post 612 and American Legion Post 30, Fergus Falls

Interment: Knollwood Memorial Garden in Fergus Falls
